Dr. John D. Myers was a retired Navy Podiatrist, having served his country for more than 30 years. He retired as a full Commander and lived in Pensacola for 40 years. John was born in Ohio and lived there until he joined the Navy in 1952, after graduating from the Illinois College of Chiropody (Podiatry) in Chicago. John was the Navy's second Podiatrist and was stationed at large training bases at Parris Island, S.C., Great Lakes, IL, Pensacola, FL, and Okinawa.
John was very active in the Masons in South Carolina as Master of Port Royal Lodge, President of Sojourners, founder of Semper Fidelis Shrine Club and active in the Scottish Rite and Shrine. He was also a member of the Zelica Grotto in Pensacola.
John had a life-long interest in magic and was a practicing magician from a young age. Until his death, John was very active in church. While born a Methodist, he joined the Episcopal Church as an adult. He and his family held many positions with Holy Trinity in Pensacola.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan Ziebell Myers, two daughters Jody Kellerman (Keoki) and Janna Wood (Craig), and four grandchildren Kelsey and Kayla Wood and John (Kai) and Ki'i Kellerman.
Memorial services will be 11 AM Tuesday, January 6th at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 805 N Blue Angel Parkway with Rev. Jane Watkins officiating. A visitation reception will follow. Interment will be at 2:30 PM at Pensacola Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in John's name to Holy Trinity Church Memorial Fund.
