A graveside service for Dolores Root, 76, of Homestead, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, in Homestead Cemetery with Bro. Manuel Beckner and Dennis McAbee officiating. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., of Okeene. The casket will be open at the funeral home from 9-11:30 a.m. today.Memories may be shared with the family at www.lanmanmemorials.com.Dolores was the first of three children, born on Nov. 1, 1932, in Edmond, OK to Ralph and Margaret Orr Hood and died on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at her home in Homestead after a long, tough fight with emphysema surrounded by her family.She attended school through the 11th grade. While working as a waitress at the Snyder Drive In Cafe in Edmond, she met her future husband, Thomas Root, and they were married on May 4, 1952, in Berryville, AR. They shared 56 years together. They moved from Edmond to Homestead in 1960. She worked as a waitress at Queen's Kitchen in Fairview, and later at Pizza Inn in Okeene retiring in 1997.Dolores loved her family an displayed that love every day of her life. She was a busy homemaker who loved looking after her family. She often held Sunday and holiday family gatherings. She enjoyed going to garage sales. Dolores was baptized in May of 1964, at Homestead, Oklahoma and was a member of the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. Dolores was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Survivors include her husband, T.J. of the home; one daughter, Mary Schadler of Lahoma; three sons, Lynn Root of Homestead, Ronnie Root and wife, Lawana of Homestead, and John Root and wife, Sheila of Enid.; two grandchildren she raised as her own children, Ray Ake and Deanna Stotts; one brother, Elmer Hood and wife, Cleo of Edmond; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Debbie; and one sister, Jeanie.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of the Firstborn.(Paid Obit 1-3-1)
