Obituary: Susan Amelia Craig, daughter of Elisha and Lovina Craig, was born in Clark Center, Clark County, Illinois, 27 December 1858 and departed this life at her home near Hatton April 20th, 1932, at the age of 73 years, 3 months, and 23 days. In early life she was converted and united with the Methodist Church at Darwin. Later when the Methodist Protestant Church was organized at Hatton, she became a charter member where she remained faithful to the end. She was an honored and respected citizen and highly esteemed by all with whom she came in contact. When the Royal Neighbor Lodge was organized at Darwin she went in as a charter member. Thus a good woman and mother has fallen, but we bow in humble submission to Him who is too wise to err and who thought it best to remove her from this world of sorrow and pain to that blessed land for which she had been prepared.
Her husband died August 8th, 1919. Three children preceded her; two in infancy and George who died October 25, 1914. Two grandchildren also preceded her, Pearl Serwise, Dec. 28, 1906 and Effie Burkybile Dec. 11, 1931. Surviving her are Alonzo Walls of West Union, Mrs. Jennie Serwise of Champaign, Mrs. Florence Hacker of Augusta, Kansas, Mrs. Lillian Burkybile of Clark Center and Mrs. Lovina Saiter at home. Besides the children she leaves 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Lillian Patterson of Wichita, Kansas, and a host of friends to mourn her departure.
Funeral services were conducted April 23 at Hatton church by Rev. E.E. Wesley of Pinkstaff, assisted by her pastor, Rev. J.P. Collier. Burial in the Brick Cemetery.
