Memorial services for George D. Milligan, 85, Byng, were 10 a.m. Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Revs. Joe Dixon, Jerry Studebaker and Bill Dixon officiated.

George went to be with the Lord Dec. 14, 2006, while residing in a local nursing home. He fought a severe stroke for several months. He was born Feb. 12, 1921, at McKees Rocks, Pa., to George and Thelma Pettigrew Milligan.

He graduated from McKees Rocks High School and attended East Central University. He and his family moved to Ada from Borger, Texas, in 1952. George was a printer for the Ada Evening News, retiring in 1983. He was later employed with the Byng School System in the cabinet shop. He was a longtime active member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as deacon and taught Sunday School. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He married the love of his life Dorothy Brown June 7, 1945, at Sulphur.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Milligan, of the home; two sons, Ralph Milligan, Kingston, Okla., and Tim Milligan and wife Loyce, Hot Springs, Ark.; four grandchildren, Timmy Dean Milligan, Pine Bluff, Ark., Dawna Michele Milligan, Baltimore, Md., Steve Milligan and wife Hannah, Glenwood Springs, Colo., and Jerad Milligan, Elk City; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Dawn Milligan, Shanae Milligan, Cassidy Milligan and Garian Milligan; and a sister, Virginia Wilcox, Slidell, La.

He was preceded in death by his son Paul Milligan and his parents.

Nicer, more thoughtful persons could not be found than George and Dorothy. They have never hestitated to take in homeless children and adults. They have helped children and adults go to college. They have spent a life of service helping others. They were/are devout Christians. George was also a very intelligent man who could repair anything that needed fixing. If you needed help with something you knew to go to George and Dorothy.

I can't really put into words how much George was loved and how much he is missed by so many people. We were all so blessed by knowing and loving him.
