Jan was born in Stanisławów, Poland, and immigrated to the United States on September 26, 1909, and changed his name to John. In 1910 he lived with three other Polish immigrants with the John Sadecki family. On May 17, 1916, John and Stella were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. They were the parents of three children: John Jr, Wanda and Edmund. During the 1920s John was a moulder for a stove foundry, then worked as an oiler for Wilson & Co., where he retired from in 1950. At the time of his death he lived at 8501 State Avenue with his wife and daughter. John and his family were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He passed away at Bethany Hospital at the age of 75.

Surviving him were his wife, Stella, and daughter, Wanda Stull; his son, Eddie of 310 North 15th Street in Kansas City, Kansas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation and the Rosary were at the Butler Chapel, 22 South 18th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services were the next morning at Butler Chapel, followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Patrick's Church.
