PFC Frederick L Martin, Vietnam Veteran, Native of New Bern, NC.

Private First Class Frederick L Martin was a casualty of the Vietnam War. As a member of the Army, PFC Martin served our country until February 29th, 1968 in Gia Dinh, South Vietnam. He was 20 years old and was not married. It was reported that Frederick died from multiple fragmentation wounds from a mine. His body was recovered. PFC Martin is on panel 42E, line 007 of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. He served our country for less than a year.

Private First Class Frederick Leon Martin, son of Mr and Mrs Luke P Martin Jr, died Thursday, February 28, in Vietnam while on a reconnaissance mission. He enlisted in the Army June 9, 1967, and was transferred six months later to Vietnam. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, March 18, at 1pm from St John M. Baptist Church with the pastor, Reverend J.T. Parks, officiating, Interment will follow in the New Bern National Cemetery. Including his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs Elsie M Staten and Miss Fannie C. Martin of New Bern, NC; four brothers, Robert, William and Isaac Martin of New Bern, N.C, and Nathaniel Martin of Washington, DC; three uncles, Ernest and Melvin Fisher of New Bern, N.C, and Joseph Martin of Washington, D.C., four nieces, three nephews; one sister-in-law; one brother-in-law; four aunts-in-law and a host of cousins and other relatives.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs Luke S Martin, Route #3, New Bern, NC. He was a 1966 graduate of J.T. Barber High School. New Bern, NC.
My brother was the best basketball player around. He also loved to hunt and was a fine dancer.-Fannie Martin Wiliams

He served with the Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry, "Bobcats", 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning", USARV.

He was awarded The Combat Infantryman's Badge(CIB), The Purple Heart Medal for his combat related wounds, The Vietnam Service Medal, The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Service Medal, The National Defense Service Medal.
