Bessie Lee Turner, 91, passed from this life December 30, 2008 at her residence.
She was born on May 30, 1917 in Colfax to Alice Gentry Mundy and Harvey Lee Mundy and grew up in Colfax and Simpson.

When the high school in Simpson, temporarily closed, she went to stay with relatives in Colfax where she graduated from high school. It was there where she met Luther "Pete" Turner who she married on Christmas Eve in 1934. They lived in Jonesboro-Hodge, Georgetown and Tullos. After her husband passed away in 1952 she moved to Simpson.

She was also preceded in death by her mother, father and loving daughter-in-law Carolyn.

She is survived by her son Robert Turner, her daughter Peggy Matero and husband Tony; her granddaughter Leah Moore and husband Paul and three wonderful great grandchildren, Bobby, David and Anna who she adored. She is also survived by her brother, Earl Mundy and sister Tressie Williamson of Simpson along with many nieces and nephews.

She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Tullos; Leesville First Baptist Church and Simpson First Baptist Church.

She was a long-time employee of the Fashion Dress Shop and was a bank teller at the Vernon Bank in Leesville until she retired when she was in her early 70's. She trained many new tellers and made many friends everywhere she lived. Her sweet and kind spirit will be missed.

Her funeral services were held in her honor Friday, January 2, 2009, 10 a.m. at Simpson First Baptist Church. Visitation by her friends and family was set for Thursday, January 1st, 4pm until 6pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville and continued Friday, January 2nd at Simpson Baptist Church; 8am until the time of the service at 10 am. Rev. Jeremy Blocker will conduct the service. Interment followed at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Bentley under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville.
