LaVerne was born February 21, 1927 in Maraborrow, MO to Homer Elmer and Nellie Viola (Powell) Irvin. She grew up in Lenexa. LaVerne married William “Bill” Stone on July 18, 1944 in Olathe, KS. They lived in Johnson County until 1977 when they moved to rural Spring Hill. LaVerne painted ceramics, loved to grow and enjoyed flowers, and collected dolls. She attended the Gardner Friends Church. LaVerne was a wonderful caring wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.
LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Gary in 1945; sister, Wanda Jackson in 1999; and brother, Homer Wayne (Sonny) Irvin in 2000. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William “Bill” Stone of the home; sons, William T. (Opal) of Spring Hill, and Homer (DeEtta) of Kansas City, KS; daughters, Sue of Spring Hill and Rose of Lenexa; brothers, Keith and Darrel of Louisburg; sister, Delores Williford, Prairie Village; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Susan "Tiss" LaVerne Stone, 81, of rural Spring Hill, KS, passed away December 30, 2008. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Mon., January 5 at Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill, KS, (913-592-2244). Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Sun., January 4 at the funeral home. Burial in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Stanley, KS.
