Born in the Wenona Community of Crisp County, she was a resident of Cordele most of her life. She was the third daughter of John Owen Hawke and Sophie Hardin Hawke and was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Wade, and sister, Vera Hawke Tanner.
Ms. Wade was one of the earliest cochlear ear implant recipients which allowed her to hear after 50 years of living in silence. As a result of her deafness, she was only able to attend school through the fifth grade. Though she only had five years of elementary education, she persevered and was able to complete beauty school in Macon at the age of 21. She was also a longtime member of Third Street Baptist Church.
Surviving is her sister, Audrey Hawke Kaiser of Bay Village, Ohio; her son, Marvin G. Wade and his wife, Sandee of metro Atlanta; her daughter, Irene Wade Belcher and her husband, David also of metro Atlanta; one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
