Assunta Guadnola was born in the small town of Grimaldi Italy. She came to Brazil and eventually Colorado, USA with her husband John. She lived in a very small house just outside Lake City Colorado. She was said to be very protective of her family.

Assunta and her family eventually moved to Glenwood Springs Colorado. During the great depression Assunta and her husband John fed the neighbors with their garden and eggs from their chickens. Their daughter Patsy remembers delivering eggs to the neighbors. Although the Guadnola family was very poor and needed money, Patsy remembers her mother and father telling her not to take a penny from anyone for the eggs.
