Stanley E. Clemmens, 100, of Menomonie died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
He was born Nov. 16, 1908, in Racine to Henry and Mary (Johnson) Clemmens. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to a farm in the Glenwood City area. He attended the one-room Bell School until graduating from the eighth grade.
On Oct. 10, 1931, Stanley married Anna K. Jensen in River Falls. Together they farmed the home farm near Glenwood City for 26 years until moving to Menomonie in 1957. They celebrated 75 years of marriage before Anna's death in 2007.
Stanley was manager and also drove truck for Menomonie Redi Mix, a division of Eau Claire Sand and Gravel, later called American Materials. He retired from there after 17 years.
Stanley was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie for more than 50 years. He enjoyed fishing and also traveling. He loved his family and will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Stanley is survived by his children, Mary (Ernest) Kiekhoefer of Glenwood City, Richard (Elaine) Clemmens of Sand Creek, Marlene (Brian) Hurtgen of Glenwood City, Judy (Marlin) Severson of Menomonie, Duane (Anita) Clemmens of Elk Mound and Cindy (Jim) Langland of Menomonie; son-in-law, Joseph (Ellen) Hurtgen of Woodville; 33 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anna; infant daughter, Linda Clemmens; daughter, Betty Hurtgen; brother, Irvin Clemmens; sister, Jeanette Utecht; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie, with the Rev. David Whelan officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran/Halvorson Cemetery in Menomonie.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of the services Monday at the church.
