Phoebe Ann Brokaw was born Jun 17, 1838 in Morris Township, Knox County, Ohio, and died Sep 22, 1935 in Manilla, Crawford County, Iowa at the age of 97.

She married Francis William Lambert in Ohio on Mar 10, 1859. He was born Dec 21, 1829 and died Mar 18, 1907 at the age of 77. He was the son of Jacob Lambert and Mary Callahan.

In 1865, they moved to Illinois, then on to Newton, Jasper County, Iowa two years later, where they lived on a farm for 26 years. Around 1895, they moved to Manilla, Crawford County, Iowa.

After her husband's death in 1907, Phoebe Ann lived with her married daughter, Carrie Inez Lambert Kerr, until her death in 1935. The home still stands at 632 3rd Avenue in Manilla, Crawford County, Iowa.

The 1910 census for Iowa, Crawford County, Nishnabotny Township, Manilla, (Roll 399, e.d. 75, sheet 2, line 59) lists P. A. Lambert, 69, 1 of 1 child, born in Ohio, parents born in New Jersey, own income, able to read and write.

The 1915 Iowa census, Crawford County, Manilla, indexed as "Phibe A. Lambert," age 75, birth place Ohio, with an 8th grade common education, a member of the Methodist Church, with her parents' birthplaces listed as New Jersey. She was listed as White, widowed, able to read and write, having lived in Iowa 49 years. (Roll IA1915_119, card number (line) 670)

The 1920 census for Iowa, Crawford County, Nishnabotny Township, Manilla Town, District 82, taken on Jan 2, 1920, lists Phoebe A. Lambert, 80, mother-in-law, born in Ohio, both parents born in Ohio [actually, New Jersey], living with Calvin L. Kerr and Carrie I. Kerr, white.

The 1930 census for Iowa, Crawford County, Nishnabotny Township, District 18, lists Ann Lambert, mother in law living with C. L. Kerr and Carrie Kerr, age 91, widowed, born in Ohio, both parents born in New Jersey.

According to her obituary, she "was highly regarded by all her acquaintances. She was especially fond of younger people and children, all of whom knew her as "Aunt Ann." She was never too busy to converse with juveniles. She was a close reader of magazines and periodicals that pertained to pertinent facts of the day and was well versed on present day political and other subjects of world-wide interest.

"Another of her achievements was her ability to do tatting, needle work, and other elaborate fancy work well after she had passed her 90th birthday. Her skill along that line was the marvel of women many years younger.

"During her entire life Mrs. Lambert was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.

"Despite her advanced years, Mrs. Lambert had enjoyed splendid health until recently. During the past few weeks her health failed rapidly and she was under the care of a nurse.

"Funeral services were conducted from the C. L. Kerr home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and were in charge of Rev. D. I. Hower of the M. E. church. Interment was in the Nishnabotny (Manilla, Iowa) cemetery." Her stone reads, "Ann Lambert, June 17, 1838 - Sept 23, 1935." It is located next to the stone of Francis W. Lambert in the north central portion of the cemetery. The cemetery is one mile west, and 1/4 mile north of Manilla, off Iowa Route 141.

Her death certificate is F24-140, registered no. 24-5, Nishnabotna Township, Manilla, Crawford County, Iowa. It shows her as having lived in Manilla for 42 years, with her full name Phoebe Ann Lambert, female, white, widow of F. W. Lambert. Her date of birth was 6-17-1838 with place of birth Ohio, and she lived 97 years, 3 months, and 5 days, dying on 9/22/1935. He was listed as a housewife, daughter of John A. Brokaw and Caroline Bush, both born in New Jersey. Francis L. Kerr was the informant for the certificate. Her doctor, Edward M. Mark, M.D. of Manilla, certified that she died of senile dementia, date of onset 7/1/35. This was a clinical diagnosis, and no autopsy was ordered. There was no disease or injury related in any way to her occupation. The licensed enbalmer was Gilbert J. Disburg, no. 2505, of Manilla. Burial or removal was on 9/24/1935 in Manilla. The certificate was filed on 9/24/1935.
