On 9/25/1862 he mustered into "A" Co. MA 46th Infantry which was taken into service for a term of only 9 months.
He was Mustered Out on 7/29/1863 at Hampden Park, Springfield, MA. The Regiment was sent to New Bern, NC where it served well. They just missed the battle of Gettysburg because a General did not want a regiment with such little time left to be in service during the battle.
