Clarence "Sarge" Newton Sr., 77, a loving father, grandfather and friend, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008.
Funeral: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel of Fort Worth. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park.
Clarence was born March 16, 1930, in Fort Worth. He was the seventh child and son of Ike and Ernestine Newton. Clarence married the love of his life, Mary, on June 5, 1981. He accepted Christ at an early age.
Clarence was a member of St. James AME Church. He graduated from high school in Chicago, Ill. Clarence proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired as a master sergeant. Mr. Newton, as he was affectionately called, worked for the Fort Worth Independent School District for 15 years as a campus monitor. After his retirement, Mr. Newton made sure to stay active. His daily routines included stops at a nearby grocery store. He loved to clip coupons and he was an amazing cook. Every day he joined his two grandchildren at 2 p.m. sharp after their school day. He never forgot to buy grapes for his princess, "Gianna." Holidays were always made special when he received a big hug from his grandson, Daniel.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Renate Moore Newton; two sisters; and five brothers.
Survivors: Wife of 27 years, Mary Newton; daughters, Barbara Hunt (Freddie) and Tamron Hall; sons, Toddrick Hall (Lydia) and Clarence Newton Jr. (Sandy); 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, O.C. Newton (Ann), Vernon Newton (Delois) and Roland Newton; his favorite nephew, who was more like a son, Roy Gonzales; goddaughter, Tara Jones; three sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law.
