Ray Buckner, 79, of Trail, MN, died on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN with Father John Kleinwachter presiding. Burial will be at 3:00 P.M on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at Arlington Memorial Park in Atlanta, GA.
Visitation will be one prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Ray Leslie Buckner was born on March 4, 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Paul and Ethel (Ford) Buckner. He attended school in Atlanta. Ray entered the United States Coast Guard in February of 1946, serving throughout the United States for 25 years. While he was in the Coast Guard he served on Ice Breakers, Eastwind, Storiss and Duane, breaking ice at the North Pole and South Pole. Ray married Mary Rutheford on September 4, 1950. He was discharged on June 1, 1971. Following his retirement from the Coast Guard Ray worked at Wells Fargo in Atlanta as security guard, retiring at age 77.
Ray was united in marriage on August 10, 1979 to Ruth Cahan. Ray moved to Oklee in October of 2006 and lived with his daughter and son-in-law.
He enjoyed Genealogy, Coast Guard reunions, reading, gardening, computers, the outdoors and traveling to visit family and friends. He was a member of Masons, Elks, Shriners, Scottish Rites, Sons of the American Revolution and the US Coast Guard Alumni.
Ray is survived by children: Mike (Cecelia) Buckner of Austin, TX, Jan (Rick) Dulka of Oklee, MN, Lois McDonald of Summerset, PA, and Katie (Al) Taddeo of Rome, Ohio; one step daughter, Linda (Richard) Kirschbaum of Long Island, NY; grandchildren: Heather, Shannon, Dawn, Melissa, Michelle, Logan, Sarah and Erin; great grandchildren: Christian, Jeremiah, Natalie, Julia, Gwenviere, Jaqin, Clare Devon and Lilly; one brother, Walter (Peggy) Buckner of McDonna, GA; one sister, Sara (Jim) Boley of Palm Meadows, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents; brother, Theron Buckner; and sister, Bernice Gant.
