Violet Mennet Johnson, age 92 of Edwardsville, died at 5:25 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 at Eden Village Care Center. She was born on Jan. 28, 1916 in Beach Grove, Ark., the daughter of the late Daniel and Minnie Dickerson Breckenridge. She married Carl Johnson on Feb. 10, 1936, in Hot Springs, Ark. He preceded her in death on Nov. 29, 1961. She is survived by a son: Fred Johnson of Greenville; two daughters: Sherry Highley of Edwardsville and Joyce, and husband Lloyd Heiney of Edwardsville; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Erna and Dewey Breckenridge; and four sisters: Lila Storey, Viva Yeager, Reba Harris and Beady Breckenridge. She was a homemaker and managed the "Tourist Haven" in Hamel. She was the head cook at Hamel Elementary School and Deana's Cafe in Edwardsville. Her memberships include Edwardsville First Assembly of God and the Eagles Wings of the First Assembly of God. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30 at Weber and Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at Edwardsville First Assembly of God with Rev. Tim Broihier officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Edwardsville. Memorials may be given to the Edwardsville First Assembly of God of to Shriner's Hospital.
