Donald M. Bergkamp

PRETTY PRAIRIE - Donald M. Bergkamp, 78, died Jan. 9, 2008, at his home in Pretty Prairie.

He was born Nov. 14, 1929, on the family farm near Mount Vernon, the son of Joseph and Nora Gerber Bergkamp. He was a dairyman, farmer and founder of Bergkamp Insurance Center, South Hutchinson.

He belonged to the Cursillo, P.I.A. and K.M.C.A.

On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Joymlee Walker in Hutchinson. She survives.

Other survivors include: five sons, Greg and Donald, both of Pretty Prairie, Phil, Andale, Paul and Kevin, both of Colwich; four daughters, Denise Lagaly, Colwich, Michelle Becker, Wichita, Janet Head, Lyons, and Stephanie, Whitewater; six brothers, Gerald and Harold, both of Denver, Joseph, Puerto Rico, Norbert, Garden Plain, William, Halstead, and Gilbert, Pretty Prairie; 32 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph, and a brother Wilfred.

Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ost. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Father Ivan Eck presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain. Visitation will also be before service time Saturday at the church. Burial will be in St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Mount Vernon.

Memorials may be sent to the St. Joseph Catholic School endowment fund or to Hospice of Reno County, both in care of the mortuary.
