"Line Of Duty Death, Firefighter"

Daughter of Harvey and Joanne (Kanavel) Newton, Jr.

Mother of Emily Ann Burge.

Michelle graduated from Middletown High School in 1997 and attended Del Tech where she pursued a degree in Early Childhood Education. Most recently she worked for Coventry Healthcare in Newark.

Michelle's life revolved around her daughter, Emily. Together they loved to shop and enjoyed spending time together.

When Michelle wasn't working or with Emily, she was actively involved with her second most important passion, the Delaware City Fire Company. There she served as a firefighter with the fire company, as well as the Ladies Auxiliary for more than 5 years.

During that time, she held the position of Secretary for the Ladies Auxiliary, co-chaired the department's fire prevention committee and most recently assisted with their open house.

Michelle cherished the department's recent receipt of the Edward McCormick Award, presented by the Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission in recognizing excellence for fire safety and public education.

Michelle also proudly served with the Volunteer Hose Company in Middletown as a firefighter since 2000 and with the Ladies Auxiliary since April of 1996.

Her dedication to the fire and emergency medical services, as well as to the community was immeasurable. Although Michelle's life was short, helping others is what she enjoyed.
