Betty Ruth Winslow
Betty passed away peacefully from this life on December 19, 2018 after a gradual decline in health, but what a glorious day to rejoice as she joined her husband Kenneth on their 76th wedding anniversary. Betty was born to parents, Elmer and Katherine Lehman, in 1921, in Whitehouse, Ohio where she lived her entire life. Besides her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brothers, Leo Lehman and Richard (Dick) Lehman and her sister Thelma Lehman Pfaff.
Betty is survived by three daughters: Judy Carter, Peggy (Ralph) Whalen and Diana Jean (Tom) Kalassay; seven grandchildren: Brett (Julie) Carter, Scott (Jami) Carter, Melissa Carter, Kelly (Ryan) Carpenter, Jill (Kaleb) Brankamp, Andrea (Bob) Baldwin and Erin Johnson; fifteen great-grandchildren: Kourtney Carter, Alix, Coy and Kaci Carter, Myranda, Noah and Zach Carter, Celia and Charlie Carpenter, Sebastian, Gabriella and Penelope Brankamp, Hannah and Paige Baldwin, Meredith Johnson. She is also survived by her sister, Gloria Lehman Martin.
Betty graduated from Whitehouse High School where she served as Vice-President of her Senior Class and her husband Kenneth was President. They worked together on class reunions for many years. While Kenneth was serving in World War II, Betty went to work at the Rossford Supply Depot to support the U.S. war effort. She was a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary and attended the Whitehouse Methodist Church where she had been involved in Women's Organizations. During the rest of her life, Betty was a busy homemaker who could usually be found cooking homemade meals for her family, tending to the family home and their large family garden. She could often be seen outside maintaining her yard and enjoying the beauty and wonder of nature around her. She never missed an opportunity to offer her freshly baked cookies when anyone visited her, especially her wonderful assortment of Christmas cookies. Betty was always ready to play a quick hand of cards and listening to Lawrence Welk made her evening. She will be remembered for her quiet sense of humor, her sweet, kind spirit, and her love for her family. When questioned if she wanted to stay by herself, her reply was "Why, I like myself".
Eventually due to health issues, Betty enjoyed the comfortable and attentive environment she experienced at The Lakes of Monclova. Prior to her stay at The Lakes, Christian Home Care services provided Betty thoughtful and compassionate time in her own home.
In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hope United Methodist Church, Whitehouse, Ohio or a charity of the donor's choice. There will be a private service with internment at The Whitehouse Cemetery. Betty's valiant determination to live will always be remembered by her family……. Rest in a well-deserved peace, Betty Ruth.
