Opal Thompson, 99, of Dallas, TX and formerly of Elkhart, TX died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, in a Dallas nursing home. Burial in Parker Cemetery in Houston County was under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. She was born November 20, 1909 in Houston County, Texas. Opal was one of 12 children of Ed and Della Keen who were raised on their farm in Houston County. From her father's second marriage, she was joined by four step sisters and another sister born in 1922. Opal's life was spent primarily as the devoted wife to her beloved husband, Walter S. Thompson, Jr., who preceded her in death in 1980. Although they had no children, she was the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and their families. Opal is survived by sister, Nora Wills of Dallas; brother, Darrell Keen of Elkhart; sister, Eddie Garrison of Yellville, Ark.; and the many nieces and nephews and their families.
