Leslie Ray Vaughn, 64, of Athens, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at his residence.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Harrison Lee and Agnes Matthews Vaughn, and was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Bettye Ables Vaughn, on March 13, 2008; one son, Christopher Vaughn; one grandson, Christopher Howard; one sister, Deliah Mae Stringer; and one brother, Oliver Lee "Pete" Matthews. He was self-employed as a stone mason and was a member of River Worship Center.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Charles Sutton, Angie and Aaron Decker and Missy and L.T. Cantrell, all of Athens, and Michelle and Jimmy Overby of Ewing, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Joshua Martin, Matthew Martin, Emily Decker, Christian Decker, Rachel Cantrell, Rocky Howard and Kim Howard; three great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Arvil and Jeanne Vaughn of Belvidere, Ill.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Bernice and Frank Parton of Crossville, and Lillian Bledsoe of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two special friends, Wayne McDonald and Ulyss Swafford; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Spear officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
