Merritt Death is Ruled Accidental
The death of William Eddie Merritt of Turnerville which occurred on Monday, Dec 20, was ruled as accidental by a three man coroner's jury which held an inquest Tuesday before A.A DePauw, Lincoln County Coroner. Merritt was found dead of a gunshot wound in the basement of his house and a rifle was found by his body.
Jurors of the inquest, which was held in the sheriff's office in Afton were John L. Metcalf, J.Delos Anderson and William Neuenswander. Their decision as reported by Coroner DePauw, is as follows:
"William Eddie Merritt met death through the accidental discharge of his rifle. It is evident to us that he had fallen into the fruit shelves in the basement of his home when the rifle was discharged. Evidence of any object that could have caused the trigger to discharge is unknown to us."
