Mary Ann (Polly) Lockheart was born Aug 24, 1816 in Virginia, likely Shenandoah County, and died Oct 1, 1897 in the home of her daughter Susanna Sonner in northern Atchison County, Missouri at the age of 81.

She married Albert Jenkins on Apr 28, 1834 in Virginia. He was born Dec 10, 1814 in Virginia and died Apr 21, 1874 in Geneseo Township, Henry County, Illinois at the age of 59. He was the son of William Jenkins and Rachel Brandom.

The 1877 History of Henry County, Illinois p. 201, lists Mary Ann as a resident of Geneseo Township, as follows,

"Jenkins, Polly A., Mrs. P. O. Box Geneseo; Meth; from Va, farm of 82 ac. val. $4,900."

The 1880 census for Illinois, Henry County, Geneseo (Roll 213, page 10), lists Polly A. Jenkins, age 63, occupation farmer, birthplace Virginia, with the birthplace of both parents in Virginia. A 21 year-old hired man by the name of Ira Bullard was living in the household.

Emma Sonner King, a granddaughter, wrote about her grandmother in 1928:

"Polly Ann Jenkins was born in Virginia in the year 1816 in W. Virginia. Her husband died in about the year 1878. There were 13 children born to their family three boys and 10 girls.

"The family moved from Virginia when Susan Nurway, about the third child was 11 years old. Coming to Eastern Iowa where they remined only for a few years then moved to Henry County Illinois, where grandfather Jenkins died after quite a lingering sickness.

"Grandmother Jenkins kept the farm in of 80 A. in good shape for a number of years after, then went to Neb. where she lived with her daughter Lucy Funk near Fremont, who also had a large family but well to do, owning about 1100 A. in the good part of Neb.

"At the age of 80 years the subject of this article had a stroke of paralysis in right arm recovered sufficient to be able to do most of her work. During the last year of her life she spent at the home of her daughter in Atchison County Mo. (the N.W. corner Co.) where she died at the age of 81 years.

"Polly A. Jenkins in the eyes of her grandaughter, Emma Sonner King, was a wonderful woman, bright, intellectual, a strong Christian character and was truly loved and liked by everyone who knew her. One thing I must mention too, she was such a hard worker and was so neat in her home and appearances. All in all, we who follow in her genealogical line may be thankful for our good fortune. The maiden name of this good woman was Lockhart. The writer has no knowledge that she had but one brother John and a sister Betsy who married a man by the name of Hill (William). By Emma King"

She was buried in the Locust Grove Cemetery in southern Fremont County, Iowa in the Sonner plot, just two or three miles north of the Sonner homestead near Westboro, Atchison County, Missouri. Her stone is an obelisk, engraved, "Polly A Jenkins Born Aug. 24 1816 Died Oct 1, 1897" " In my father's house are many mansions" "Farewell" "Jenkins"
