Last Rites Held for Pioneer H.A. Cook
Deceased Came Here in 1885.
Resided On Ranch Forty-Five Years
Funeral services were conducted for Henry A Cook Wednesday August 28th at the Burton Assembly of God Church By Rev F E
Anderson Newport with Rev C. A. Beebe, of Burton assisting.
The Six grandsons acting as pall bearers as requested by Mr Cook before his death were Dale Bailey,Burrell and Lloyd White,Billy, Dean and Gerald Cook.Mr. Cook's granddaughter,
Beatrice Cook,was pianist with the Burton Assembly of God male quartet singing the songs also requested by Mr.Cook.
All immediate relatives were present at the funeral services with the exception of eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Interment was made in the Burton cemetery.
Henry Alvin Cook was born near Reynolds Pennsylvania on February 10, 1862, and departed from this life on August 25, 1940, at the age of 78 years 6 months and 15 days.
He left Pennsylvania on March 2 1880 and came wist to Carroll City Iowa and lived in Carroll county until March 1 1883 when he moved to Cedar county Nebraska. In 1885 he move to Keya Paha county and filed on a homestead located three miles west of Burton where he built up a 1360 acre ranch known as the Cedar Lawn Ranch.He lived at this location until 1930 when he moved to Burton where he continued to reside until the time of his death. In 1878 he was confirmed in the Lutheran church later changing his church affiliation to the Methodist church. In 1931 he united with the Burton Assembly of God to which he has been a true and faithful member. Mr.Cook's main ambition through out his life was to see the Gospel of Christ go forward.
On July 13, 1887 he was united in marriage at Hartington, Nebraska to Eva May Withrow of Plymouth California.To this union were born eight children Five sons, Perry of Burton Bert of Twin Falls Idaho Russell and Kenneth of Carns and Duane of Springview
three daughters Mrs. Fern Bailey of Valentine Mrs. Pearl White of Burton and Mrs. Hazel Van Cleef,Wood, South Dakota.
Besides his widow and children Mr.Cook leaves to mourn his passing two brothers and one sister all Pennsylvania; a niece Mrs.Eva Bammerlin of Burton,whom he raised from childhood; 40 living grandchildren 10 great grandchildren;
other relatives and a host of friends.
Friends remember as you pass by, As you are now,so once was I,As I am now you soon shall be,Prepare for death and follow me.
