College football player. After graduating from Fitch High School in Youngstown in 1947, he went to the University of North Carolina. He played center and was team captain in 1950. He garnered All-America honors that year and played in the College All-Star game. He was a 7th round pick in the 1951 NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns, but spent two years in the Army. He tried out in 1954 after his Army stint, but was cut as he was too light for their team. He then tried out for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL but was cut there, too. In 1955 he had offers to try out for the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles, but declined to try. He spent most of his career as a packaging engineer for Norton, a manufacturer of abrasive products like grinding wheels and sandpaper.
