CHARLES E. LIBBY - Nov. 2, 1897 - March 17, 1986
Services for Charles E. LIBBY of 228 N. Cherry St. in Fruita will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Martin's Mortuary chapel with the Rev. A. J. BERTRAND officiating.
Mr. LIBBY died Monday at Family Health West after a long
illness. He was 88.
Mr. LIBBY, a retired airline mechanic, had lived in Fruita for several months.
He was born 2 Nov 1896, in Pratt County, Kansas, where he spent most of his childhood and attended schools. He had lived in Hayward and San Francisco, Calif.,
and Wichita, Kan.
He was one of the 13 men who helped build the "Mystery S" plane, the winner of the 1929 Cleveland National Air Races, which competed against entries by the U.S. Army and Navy.
He married Elizabeth LIBBY Dec. 22, 1950, at Hayward, Calif. Mrs. LIBBY died July 23rd.
He previously was married to Merna SMITH, who is deceased.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Evelyn KREMPECKI of East Northport, N.Y., and Mildred CONNORS of Lynn, Mass.; a son, Verl S. of Greenfield, Ind.; a sister, Alice PEACHEY of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother Raymond LIBBY of Afton, Okla.; 9 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call until 8 tonight at Martin's.
