She was born Sept. 26, 1953 in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Dolores O'Connor Hemmerle. In addition to her mother, her two children, Christopher Shawn Archer and Kelley Anne Archer, preceded her in death. Karen was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport and was a member of the Pastoral Service Team for the Charismatic Renewal in West Virginia. She also volunteered to provide Christmas dinners at the Clarksburg United Methodist Church for those less fortunate in the community. She formerly played guitar for a contemporary Christian music group. Karen was a homemaker and was a wonderful caregiver for 20 years to her two children, Christopher and Kelley Anne, who battled cancer. In 2005, she graduated with a degree in interior design from Fairmont State University and started her own business, "Ready for Resale."
