Born September 27, 1885, Florence Howard, of Warren Massachusetts, daughter of George Cary Howard, 9th gen. great-grandaughter of John Alden, 7th signer of the Mayflower compact. She married Chester Mirick Kendall, of Worcester, Massachusetts in 1907, one year after her husband graduated from Worcester Polytech Institute. He was employed by American Bridge, New York division, and lived in New Britian Connecticut for 7 years. Her son, Robert Paul Kendall was born April 4, 1909. The family moved to New York City and lived for sixteen years, when Chet, as he was known, died of what is known as trench mouth (prior to penicillian). Chet is buried in Hardwick, MA, in the Howard family plot, rather than Kendall Hill, in Sterling, MA, where 9 generations of his family rest. Devastated by Chet's death and the death of her mother Marcia Laflin Howard six months earlier, Florence and her son, headed west, living around the Grass Valley and Sun Valley areas. She declined steadily, never really regaining her health and died April 23, 1966, in Sun Valley, being buried at Masonic Garden/Mountain View cemetary. Her son, Paul, died alone August 9, 1983, in Sun Valley, NV., and through the direction of the state of Nevada, was cremated, with his remains located in the mortuary in Masonic Gardens. "Paul" was overwhelmed as a care giver to his chronicallly ill mother, and collaped under the weight and strain of his mother's needs. He was a valiant young son who loved his father, and when his father was taken prematurely, Paul shut the world out, and died alone. Regretably, he never had the pleasure of knowing his son Robert Bruce Kendall, after "Paul" divorced from his wife, Mattie. Sleep well, dear ones. We will meet in heaven.
