Grace Ellen Smith was the daughter of John Washington Smith and Nancy Ellen (Cross) Smith.

She was born 22 July 1896 at Hope Well, Davis County, Iowa. The Smith Family went back in years. They migrated to Iowa when her grandfather George Washington Smith moved his family from Morgan County, Ohio sometime after his marriage to Sarah Tanner on 16 February 1840. Mrs. Grace Ellen (Smith) Kelley 56, of 110 South Birch Street, died at 3 a.m. Sunday 19 October 1952 at Ottumwa Hospital.

The daughter of John "Jack" Washington Smith & Nancy Ellen Cross, she was born in Davis County 22 July 1896. She had lived in Ottumwa approximately 18 years. She was married to Albion Ransom Kelley Wednesday 18 October 1911; he preceded her in death Tuesday 3 May 1938.

Survivors include three sons; Lloyd Ransom Kelley of Blakesburg, Maurice Kelley of Ottumwa, & Merle Franklin Kelley of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Two daughters, Mrs. Marie Jerred and Mrs. Marjorie A. Johns both of Ottumwa, Iowa. Also six grandchildren, three brothers, Clyde M. Smith of Unionville, Harry H. Smith of Blakesburg and Frank B. Smith of Ottumwa. Last with a sister Mrs. Amanda Gertrude Leonard of Ash Grove. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Alex, a sister Rhoda and her parents.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. of Tuesday at the Johnson Funeral Chapel, in charge of the service is Rev. Kenneth Ross of the Batavia Open Bible Church.

Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery, Ottumwa, Iowa R.R. #2. Nephews will serve as Pallbearers.
