Josefa Pesek was born April 4, 1831 in Slatina, Bohemia. Here she grew to womanhood and February 4, 1852 she was united in marriage to Anton Strejc. To this union were born six children, Frank, Mary, Anna, Johanna, Anton and Joseph. In 1878 they came to America and after a short sojourn in Chicago, came to Nebraska and settled near Table Rock where she has resided ever since. Many were the hardships and privations that she had to endure as one of the early settlers and often during those first few years she longed for the old home and old friends across the sea. During the last few years she had been quite feeble and lost her sight. May 10 she became seriously ill and May 28, 1909, she peacefully passed away. Funeral services were held at the family home May 30. She leaves an aged husband, two daughters, three sons, nineteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her loss, for everyone who knew her loved Grandma Strejc.
