Robert L. Samuelson, 79, of rural Faith, died at the Rapid City Regional Hospital on Wednesday evening, October 27, 2004. Robert was born on April 9, 1925, on the home ranch south of Faith, SD, to Carl and Clara (Nesheim) Samuelson.
In 1936 when Robert was 12 years old, the family moved to Spearfish where he attended school. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 1943. Robert then returned to the ranch before entering the US Army in 1945.
Following his honorable discharge, Robert returned to the ranch. He was married to Ruth M. Cooper on April 28, 1951, at Sturgis, SD. The couple lived on a ranch in Ziebach County until 1965 when they moved to a ranch south of Faith.
Robert was a director of Farmers State Bank of Faith and was a director of Norwest South Dakota Production Credit Association for 17 years. In 1978, he was nominee of the SD Democratic Party for the 2nd District Congressional Seat. In 1980, Robert was elected to the SD State Senate from Meade-Ziebach Co. where he served two years. Robert was also a member of the Faith American Legion Post.
Survivors include one brother and his wife, Voyle and Virginia Samuelson of Volborg, MT; two sisters and their husbands, Nina and Wood Delany of Hulett, WY, and Becky and John Baranski of Menomonee Falls, WI; and special friends, Norman and Susan Delbridge, Faith, SD. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth in 1985, his parents, one brother, Carl, and one sister, Willow.
