Alfred Dixon Plaw II died of a heart attack Dec. 8 at his Sonora home, which he called "The Cowboy Cabin." He was 64. A native of Sacramento, he was raised in Sacramento, Stockton, Moorpark and Mariposa. He graduated from Moorpark High School in Ventura County in 1961. He joined the U.S. Navy the same year and was stationed in Newfoundland. He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Leadership School in 1963 and served in the Navy until 1965.

He took courses at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Maryland, and was a graduate of and instructor for the Institute of Financial Education from 1972 until 1982. He became senior vice president of Placer Savings in Auburn in 1979. Much of his career was spent in sales, marketing and human resource development. He wrote and published several articles and how-to pamphlets. In 1982, he became an independent consultant and ommercial writer. He was a featured writer for the Russian River Times from 1993 to 2005.

He was a past member of Rotary International, the Elks and Sam Brannon Chapter 1004 of E Clampus Vitus in Napa. He was in the process of writing his life story when he died. He had a special interest in vintage cars, owned several in his lifetime and restored many of them. He cherished Elvis Presley and the music of the 1950s, his family said. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 10 at Heuton Memorial Chapel.
