Donald Hearnes, 91, of Little Rock, AR, formerly of Charleston, Mo., died Jan. 20, 2002, at Southwest Hospital in Little Rock.
Born July 19, 1910, in Moline, IL, son of the late Earl Boyd and Edna Mae Eastman Hearnes, he had been employed with the Missouri Highway Department, U.S. Corps of Engineers and Ozarks Regional Commission before retiring in 1980. He was a Southeast Missouri tennis champion and had been invited to try out for the St. Louis Cardinals.
On Feb. 4, 1938, he married Gwen Moxley who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, David Moxley Hearnes and John Boyd and Mary Hearnes; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Elizabeth and Chris Albright; one brother, former Missouri Gov. Warren E. Hearnes; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Hearnes and Robert E. Hearnes; and one sister, Eleanor Hequembourg.
Visitation was at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services were scheduled with The Rev. Gerald Collier, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Charleston, officiating.
Burial followed in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers were: Jack Moxley, John Moxley, Charles Moxley, Bobby Hearnes, Dick Hearnes and Justin Albright.
