D.T. "Hoagy" Carmichael, 84, who retired in 1987 after 35 years as a pressman and stereotyper at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, after an extended illness.
Funeral: 10 a.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church, 941 Bedford Euless Road, Hurst. Interment: 2:30 p.m. in Hope Cemetery in Henrietta. Viewing: 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Road, Hurst, 817-284-7271.
D.T. Carmichael was given life by his Creator and heavenly Father through his parents, Reece H. and Dovie E. Turner, on Oct. 31, 1924 in Henrietta. He graduated from El Toro High School and was a United States Marine Corps veteran who served in the Transport Co., Sixth Base Depot, Hawaii, during World War II.
He married his wife, Margie Jane Lapp, on July 3, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eden. The couple resided in Hurst for 46 years.
Mr. Carmichael was a longtime member of both Calvary and Peace Lutheran churches.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Zula Nimmo. In 2006, he was also predeceased by beloved wife, Margie, to whom he was married for 60 years.
Survivors: Sisters, Vanice Carmichael of San Angelo and Marie Huie of Dallas; daughters, Melody A. Schotte of Hurst and Tammara Glover of Albany; grandchildren, Michael Schotte of Hurst, Jeremiah Glover of Taylor, Mica Glover of San Antonio and Bonnie Glover of Albany; five great-grandchildren. Mr. Carmichael will be missed by his beloved caregivers, Jane, Julian, Lewanna and Patricia.
