Olive Jane Davis, 96, of Ridgway, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at the Heritage Center in Evansville, Indiana.
She was the daughter of Henry Lorten Files and Anna Wilson Files. She was born on May 11, 1912, at Mill Shoals. While she was in high school she moved with her family to Quinter, Kansas.
She was married to the Rev. Carl S. Davis on November 24, 1938 in Quinter, Kansas. Together, they served several churches in Southern Illinois and Great Rivers Conferences of the United Methodist Church, including Hartford-South Roxana, East St. Louis Bond Avenue, Irvington Charge, Karnak Charge, Carrier Mills-Stonefort, McLeansboro-Concord, Enfield Circuit, Okawville, Sesser-Royalton, Vienna, Shawneetown, and Ridgway.
Carl preceded her in death on August 19, 2000. Olive was active in Christian education. She taught Sunday school and served as a lab instructor in the Southern Illinois Conference. At her death, she was a member of the Ridgway United Methodist Church.
Sewing, quilting, music and genealogy were her favorite pastimes. She is survived by four of her children and their spouses, a daughter-in-law, nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son and four sisters.
Services for Olive were held Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Ridgway United Methodist Church.
