Viola Setser has a rich heritage. She was born Viola Christian of Overton Co., Tn, daughter of George W. Christian who fought in the Overton County, Tn homeguard for the Confederacy. Her mother was Celina Fisk, daughter of Moses Fisk who served on the faculty at Dartmouth College before coming to Tennessee in 1796 and becoming a wealthy land man, road builder, and educator in Overton, Jackson & White Counties. He founded Hilham where he founded the Fisk Female Academy in 1806. Moses Fisk was an early abolitionist. George Christian Sr who wrote historical letters to Lyman Draper was her other grandfather; he was an officer in the Tn Milita & owned a 1400 acre farm in Overton Co., Tn. The land belonged to his father Col. Gilbert Christian, that came from his Rev. War land grant called Hartsaw Farm. As Major Gilbert Christian of Sullivan Co., Tn (at that time NC), he was in the battle of Kings Mountain and other battles. He was Captain Gilbert Christian of Augusta Co., Va during the French & Indian War.
