JOSEPH E.B.HATTAWAY EXPIRES AT AGE OF 75
Mr. Joseph Hattaway, pioneer citizen of Covington County, passed away at the home of Mr. Joe Daniel Bracewell, Andalusia, Route 6, Friday afternoon, Sept. 9 at 5:30. Mr. Hattaway was 75 years of age.
Uncle Lwyer came to visit his friend, Mr. Bracewell, a week before death occurred. At that time he complained of his illness. He contracted pneumonia after taking his bed Saturday, death following an illness of six days.
For the past five years, Mr. Hattaway has made his home with Mr. Cliff Worthington of Andalusia, Route2. He numbered his friends by his acquaintances. As long as his health would permit, he was an active farmer taking a lead in the political and church life. The deceased was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Bailey, Dozier, Route 2, and Mrs. John Butler, Canal Point, Fla. and one brother, Mr. Oscar Hattaway, of Troy, survive him.
The funeral services were held at 3:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon Sept. 11 at Bethany church with Elder Malone Merridith officiating and was followed by interment in the cemetery there. Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased.
