Charles Parsons came to America at age nine and grew up in New York City where he became a noted lithographer, having apprenticed to George Endicott in 1833. From 1854 to 1862, he produced most of Endicott's marine lithographs and also thirty for Currier and Ives. In 1863, he became the head art director for Harper's and held that position until 1889, when he retired. After retirement, he continued to work in watercolors and traveled widely.
His death notices appeared in the New York Times on November 10 and 11, 1910:
Nov. 10: PARSONS—Nov. 9, Charles Parsons, in his 90th year, at his late residence, 199 8th Av., Brooklyn. Notice of funeral hereafter. Nov. 11: PARSONS—On Wednesday, Nov. 9, Charles Parsons, late of Boonton, N. J. Services at 199 8th Av., Friday, Nov. 11, at 3 P. M.
