Roy L. Bird, 64, of Springfield, died Friday, May 19. He was born Oct 12, 1930 in Birdtown, a son of Samuel Porter Bird and Rose Gordon-Bird. Mr. Bird worked for the Conway County Road Department, was a U.S. Air Force Korean veteran and was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Bird; one stepson, Howard Mitchell of Springfield; two stepdaughters, Patty Thurston of Huntsville and Sharon McCoy of Russellville; two brothers, Huie Bird of Clarksville and Dewey Bird of Stigler Okla; one sister Imogene French of Canadian TX; and two grandchildren. Graveside service was 2 p.m. Monday at Kilgore Cemetery by Elder Earl Smith with burial by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Andrew McCoy, Gene Wright, Larry Rehm, Roy Turner, Joe Brown, James Henderson, Eddie Sims and Dean Caston.
