Bricklayer worked on buildings across area

Jake Riffel, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 6, at his home in Mancos, Colo. Riffel was born Sept. 10, 1921, in Fort Morgan to Jake Riffel Sr. and Anna Margaret (Lendhardt) Riffel.

He was a bricklayer by trade and helped with the construction of buildings throughout the Four Corners area. Riffel built the Millwood Junction Restaurant in Mancos, which he owned for 31 years. He was also a silversmith, painter and photographer. Riffel married Roma Olena John in 1949.

He is survived by his wife; his daughters; his brother and sister; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry Riffel; and sisters, Clara Loose, Ruth Wagner and Marion Wacker.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the LDS Chapel in Mancos. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
