Canadian Pilot Officer Johnston was one of these 'few': one of the 2, 936 Commonwealth and Allied pilots who served during the early days of the Second World War in the summer and autumn of 1940; 544 of these young airmen lost their lives participating in 'The Battle Of Britain'. Forty-two of the young lives lost were Canadians—some of the 'few' lost in answering the call of duty to protect the United Kingdom.
