Nettie was the daughter of Wilson Colbert and the grand daughter of Jesse Colbert and Mary McDonald. She married Ben Pierson on Oct. 15, 1921 at Scranton, Iowa. They were the parents of Myrtle, Lois, and Lewis. She married 2nd Murl Brafford on May 1, 1971, in Colorado.

Feb 27, 1992 - Carroll Times Herald - Jefferson - Mrs. Nettie Alta Bradford, 86, Jefferson, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1992 at the Jefferson Manor nursing home.

Graveside services for Mrs. Brafford were held Wednesday afternoon at the Coon Rapids Cemetery, where she was buried. Bob McKnight of the Church of Christ, Scranton, spoke. Slininger-Rossow Funeral Homes of Jefferson and Grand Junction handled the funeral arrangements.

She was born April 4, 1906, at Coon Rapids, a daughter of Wilson and Jennie (Hutton) Colbert. She grew up in the Scranton area and attended school there. She also worked at a hotel in Scranton for several years.

She and Lewis H. Pierson were married Oct. 15, 1921, at Scranton. The couple lived in Scranton, Carroll and Des Moines. Mr. Piersen died in 1967. She and Murl Brafford were married May 1, 1971, in Colorado. They lived in Carroll. Mr. Brafford died in 1985.

Mrs. Brafford moved to Jefferson in 1985, staying with her daughter, Myrtle. She was hospitalized a short time in December 1991 before moving into Jefferson Manor. She was a member of the Scranton Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Myrtle Kendall of Jefferson and Lois Jean Miller of Carroll; a son, Lewis Pierson, Jr., of Jefferson; a stepson, Ralph Brafford of Mission, Texas; three sisters, Sarah Wright of Grand Junction, Iowa, Fern Skarin of Kiron, Iowa, and Mandy Helnore of Monterey, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brafford was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, three brothers, one grandson, one great-grandson and two sons-in-law.
