PROCTORSVILLE - James F. Walker, 72, died Oct. 16, 2006, at Springfield Hospital. He was born Nov. 26, 1933, in Woonsocket, R.I., the son of A. Leo and Catherine (McGinley) Walker.


He graduated from St. Charles Academy and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Feb. 20, 1960, Mr. Walker married Sally Ann Stocker in Woonsocket.

He was employed as a machinist for many years at General Electric, in Ludlow and later in Rutland.

He was a member of Holy Name of Mary Church.

Mr. Walker was active with the youth of the Proctorsville community and the local Hospice organization.

He enjoyed canoeing, taking walks in the woods and was an avid birdwatcher.

Survivors include two sons, Leo Bergeron-Walker of Mason, N.H., and Michael Walker of Lowell, Mass.; two daughters, Dianna Bassett of Rutland and Elizabeth Walker of Proctorsville; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1996 and by two sisters, Mary Walker and Mildred "Pat" Munday.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, at Holy Name of Mary Church in Proctorsville. The Rev. William Beaudin, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Cavendish Village Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006, at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield.
