Auguste as she was called came to America with her parents and sister Johanne in 1871, settling in Industry, Austin Co., TX. On 1 Jan 1874 in Fayette Co., TX, Auguste married Johann Heinrich Ladewig, son of Friedrich Christian and Dorathea (Janetzki) Ladewig. Henry and Auguste had 6 children. Their children were Rosa Ladewig, who married Herman Persky; Henry Charles; Augusta Louise who married Frank Schmidt; Olga who married Paul Kuemmel; Richard who married Olga Hereck; and Walter who married Ella Maeker.
The Ladewigs were divorced, and Auguste married Max Gross on 29 Oct. 1890 in Austin Co., TX. Auguste and Max had two sons together, Bruno and Eugene Gross. Max Gross seemed to have wanderlust. The family settled first near Hochheim Prairie, DeWitt Co. TX, then moved to Nopal, near Yorktown in DeWitt Co., TX. Next Max bought his first farm in the Gruenau Community, also near Yorktown. Then he bought another farm four miles east of Yorktown. Finally in 1914 he retired from active farming and bought a small home 1½ miles east of Yorktown where Friederike Auguste (Kettner) Ladewig Gross died on 17 Jan. 1927 from complications of diabetes. Max Gross died 15 Mar. 1937 in the Hermann Sons Retirement home in Comfort, Kendall Co., TX. They are both buried in Westside Cemetery, Yorktown, DeWitt Co., TX. Auguste's first husband, Johann Heinrich "Henry" Ladewig, died 19 Feb. 1906 and is buried in the Breslau Cemetery, Bresalu, Lavaca Co., TX.
