Fred was the son of William Franklin Longworth and Charity Rutha Neikirk. His first wife was Maudie Peterson. They married 11-5-1923 in Lamar, CO. They later divorced in 1924. His second marriage was to Fannie Everly.They married 10-25-1934 in Colorado Springs.

Fred enlisted in the U.S. Army 10-24-1918. He was stationed in Hawaii and Guam. After his tour of duty, he returned to Lamar, Co and worked farms and ranches.

Fred was musically talented and played various string instruments. He played the guitar and banjo for dances in his earlier years. He also played the piano and could play by ear after listening to a song. He was religious and had a deep faith.
