Elsie V. Staub, the second daughter of Frank and Thiebe (Oltmann) Hilmer was born June 19, 1919, on the family farm near Columbus, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus and attended school at Immanuel Lutheran School through the eighth grade. After receiving her education, she lived with her parents and helped out on the farm.
She was united in marriage to Ernest W. Staub on December 12, 1940 at Columbus. The couple lived and farmed at several locations in Platte County and later made their home southwest of Albion for 31 years.
Elsie was a homemaker, raising her children and helping her husband on the farm. She was a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Columbus, Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, and currently of Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, where she enjoyed sewing with the Mission Quilters. Since November, 2002 she had resided at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, where she was involved in many activities and social events.
She was survived by two daughters, Violet Harper and Janice Yehnert and one son, James Staub, 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, three brothers (Clarence, Kenneth and Norman Hilmer) and one sister-in-law, Gail Hilmer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1990, a daughter, Florence in 1966 and two brothers (Edward and Harvey Hilmer).
