Dorothy Claire Dunham, 74, of James Island, wife of Robert O. Dunham, died Sunday, May 1, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Dunham was born in Charleston on January 10, 1931 to the late William Joseph O'Brien, and Clara George O'Brien.
She graduated as valedictorian from Memminger High School in 1947. She attended and was a varsity basketball player for the College of Charleston and a member of the Drama Club in high school and college and performed at the Dock Street Theater. She was an active member of the Episcopal Christian Women's Association and the S.C. Catholic Charismatic Movement in the late 70's. She participated and taught numerous bible study groups and was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, James Island.
Claire is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert O. Dunham; her sons: Alan Paul Dunham (Paulette), William Christopher Dunham (Terri), and BrienTimothy Dunham, all of Charleston; her daughter: Lisa Claire Kluczinsky (Michael); her brother: Timothy Eugene O'Brien (Doris); her sister-in-law: Lillian O'Brien Dodson of Charleston; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Michael Robert Dunham, and her grandson, Paul Eugene Dunham. Relatives and friends of Robert O. Dunham and Dorothy Claire Dunham are invited to attend the services at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 4th, 2005 at St. James Episcopal Church, 1872 Camp Rd. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island. Friends are invited to return to the church for a reception following the burial. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00 PM Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005 at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth St
