U.S. Air Force, Retired Captain LaGrand E. "Woody" Wood passed away Dec. 16, 2008. He was born in Hurricane, Utah, Nov. 22, 1919, to Erwin and Elsie Wood, and resided in the Las Vegas valley for 57 years. Woody proudly served his country in both World War II and the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a captain in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with the City of Las Vegas as a firefighter from June 1954 to July 1978 here, also, earning the rank of captain. Woody was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merle. Theirs was a true, loving marriage that lasted 64 years. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Darren (Dennis, Dess); his sister, Reva; and his brothers, Earl, Duane, John and Valden. Woody is survived by his sister, Theo; his brother, Ron; his son, Dennis, and his children, Damon (Dess), Chad (Shauna) and Reno (Natalie); his son, Robert (Betty) and his children, Jared, Dana, Erica, Cassie and Kristy (Carma); and his daughter, Jolyn (Scott) and their children, Heidi, Karen, Kristin, Taylor and Lindsay. He also leaves 15 great-grandchildren; and a multitude of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22. Services and burial will be at noon Tuesday, Dec. 23, all at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. (at Patrick).
