Roman Catholic Priest. Born in France in 1581, Vincent de Paul received his early education from the Franciscans. He was ordained in 1600. He received a degree in Theology from the University of Toulouse in 1604 and later received a Licentiate in Canon Law from the University of Pais. Vincent de Paul spent his life preaching missions and providing relief to the poor. In 1625 he founded the Congregation of the Mission, also known as Vincentian, and later he established the Confraternities of Charity. In 1633 he co-founded, along with St. Louise de Marillac, the Daughters of Charity, the first non-cloistered religious order of women devoted to charitable works. St. Vincent de Paul was canonized in 1737 and is the patron saint of charitable societies and hospitals.
