Thomas Newton Cornwell, named after his paternal grandfather, was born near Belle Plaine, KS. The family moved to Kay County, Oklahoma Territory in 1898 and to Spring Creek Township, Logan County in 1901.
Tom attended Spring Creek grade school and Logan County High School. He enlisted in the Army 21 September 1917 and was discharged 9 June 1919 after serving a year in France.
Tom and Bessie Hammond were married 25 March 1925 in Guthrie, OK. They lived on the Cornwell farm, where their three children were born, until 1947 when they moved to Guthrie, OK.
Tom and Bessie were members of the Cashion Christian Church and First Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ)in Guthrie where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #174, Cashion, OK and American Legion Post #58, Guthrie, OK.
